From Throgmorton Community Hall
Over 65s Christmas tea party
Sunday 14 December 2008
This year's tea party has been funded by donations of stock and cash to the second hand book exchange in Highfield Stores, so if you've any books going spare, you know where to take them, and if you're short of something to read, you know where to look.
Come along and enjoy food and company for a community beginning to the festive season. Names to Rene on 01404 891766.
Dunkeswell's Got Talent
The show went off without a hitch and there were Dunkeswell bottoms on every seat in the house on each night. Every act was special in its own way and the audience showed its appreciation with huge cheers and plenty of clapping.
Thanks are due to every single performer, to Clifford for his wonderful stage, to Rene for her hard work in organising it all, to Barry Simmons for his sterling work as MC, to John Cornish for sound and lighting, and to Rev Nick Wall, Trevor Berry and Hilary Grigg for being a kindly but critical panel.
The show raised £1,500 for the hall fund and we think that is an amazing amount.
Well done everyone!
Roll on next year!
Grand Opening
More than a hundred Dunkeswell residents celebrated Throgmorton Community Hall's Grand Opening.BBC Radio's Tony Beard, the Widdecombe Wag, entertained everyone with a lively speech peppered with jokes, and unveiled the dedication plaque, declaring the hall truly open. Residents enjoyed a buffet lunch and glass of wine before perusing Dunkeswell Pre-School's Christmas Bazaar, the hall's very first booking. Next weekend hosts Dunkeswell's Got Talent, an event sure to put even X Factor in the shade!
Throgmorton Community Hall is now taking bookings for both private and community events. It's fully-licensed, seats 400 has a stage with changing areas, a well-equipped kitchen, and disabled toilet facilities.
